Send to Friend

The Shukan Post reports a growing number of Japanese women are afflicted with Persistent Sexual Arousal Syndrome (PSPS), a debilitating ailment that causes women to experience orgasms virtually 24 hours a day.

"Even the vibration of my mobile phone is enough to set me off," one woman explains. "My friend said there's something called Iku Iku byo (Cum Cum Disease). I guess I've got that."

PSAS or PGAD (Persistent Genital Arousal Syndrome) is a relatively unknown condition that primarily affects women around menopausal age. The syndrome is characterized by a persistent and highly unwanted state of genital arousal, with or without orgasms and with or without pain. This arousal does not stem from the build-up of romantic feelings, sexual thoughts or desires, but is a physical state.

Sandra Leiblum PhD, the Director of the Center for Sexual and Relationship Health, discovered the Persistent Sexual Arousal Syndrome in 2001, and has completed two Internet surveys in an effort to uncover the cause.

PSAS is not a sex addiction, and can often be a painful and demeaning experience. Many sufferers are driven to the verge of suicide. If you or anyone you know suffer from PSAS, make an appointment with your gynecologist or neurologist right away.

Just a personal opinion but

Just a personal opinion but I think the Japanese are very different in every aspects in life from different people on different countries. I think it's because their lifestyle is so different from us westerners.

And why do you assume

And why do you assume they're old? There were no statistics given. Besides I don't think it's just "endemic" to the Japanese. For all we know plenty of Americans suffer from it too but do not report it since as the article says they feel bad about it.

Do they burn lots of calories each time they orgasm like you do when you have sex?

RE: PSAS

As an "old gal" in her 50's who has PSAS, let me just say this:

PSAS is UNWANTED---it is a neurological disorder--caused by??? We do not know yet ---
There are ZERO thoughts/desires for an orgasm. Think live wires. Think muscle twitches that won't stop. Think pain!!

I run the support group for women suffering from this. There are over 400 women from all over the world---the problem is getting doctors to BELIEVE it is for real and not in our heads. Most doctors, afraid of the idea, and not having heard of it because it wasn't in the school's text books recoil and tell us to see a shrink.

I for one, was one of the first women who participated in June 2007 at Rutgers University in the first real research study. I can tell you this--that the fMRI of the brain IMMEDIATELY showed excessive activity in the part of the brain that controls pain and itch. We were validated by an entire research team that it is NOT "all in our heads"--that there are neurotransmitters mis-firing in the brain.

What is needed are doctors who will listen and from all of our experience, those doctors are few and far between--running to a gyno or neurologist will not help UNLESS they have been educated on what the condition is and that it is REAL--that is what my advocacy is all about and now I have educated you folks as well--
