But this horror story is actually “real” and it’s happened more than once in India. As The New York Times reported this week, officials in India have busted up the largest kidney-stealing ring, said to have been responsible for 400 to 500 stolen kidneys.

Police believe that due to the size of the ring, doctors and hospitals in Delhi and its suburbs must have been aware of the operation during the nine years that it was active. The alleged ringleader, Amit Kumar, was not nabbed in the raid, while several of his victims were taken from the facility during the raid and are now recovering in a hospital.
