Be honest. You kind of miss the mood ring that you rocked back in junior high. If only it weren't so...'70s.

Well there's one thing that the new color-changing "mood dress" from Philips can't be accused of being, and that is "dated." In fact, the bizarre Bubelle dress is as futuristic as they come, thanks to a white cotton candy-like sheath that has two layers. The underlying layer boasts biometric sensors that detect the wearer's emotions, projecting the appropriate colors onto the top layer.

The emotions are detected by measuring various physical changes in the wearer. The more intense the emotion, the more the dress's light changes color and pattern.

Designed as part of the SKIN Probe Project, which set out to explore what future clothing will look like, the Bubelle dress has already been named by Time Magazine as the best fashion invention of the year. (Maybe next year, Marc Jacobs.)

"A garment can be a highly complex interactive electronic or biochemical device that is more responsive to subtle triggers like sensuality, affection and sensation," Philips "body architect" Lucy McRae told The Daily Mail.

Next on the horizon are mood-altering electronic tattoos, which Dutch scientists are currently trying to develop.
