Before & AfterReviderm Intra: Another Option in Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Fillers

A semi-permanent dermal filler, Reviderm Intra, created by Rofil Medical International, is used to improve the appearance of frown lines, smile lines, scars, wrinkles and loose or saggy lips. Although not yet FDA approved for use in the United States, Reviderm Intra has been used in Europe for several years.
Composed of dextran microspheres suspended within a hyaluronic acid solution, Reviderm Intra works in two ways. Whereas the dextran microspheres function to stimulate new tissue growth and initiate collagen synthesis at the site of injection, the hyaluronic acid in Reviderm Intra works to replenish the natural hyaluronic acid that the body has lost through time and sun exposure. As a result, individuals being treated with Reviderm Intra can expect wrinkles to fade and disappear over time. The effects of Reviderm Intra, according to the manufacturers, can last for up to 18 months. However, in order to obtain long lasting, optimal results, it is suggested that the treatment be repeated one to two times with a four week interval between sessions.
Treatment with Reviderm Intra is not unlike treatment with other hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. Injections usually take less than half an hour, and occasionally require a small amount of local anesthetic to numb the treated area. Following the procedure, cold compresses or ice packs can be used to reduce any swelling, itching or discomfort.
Common side effects of treatment with Reviderm Intra include temporary swelling, redness, tenderness, discoloration and hardening of the skin, although these symptoms usually subside within a week. Other, more serious complications include allergic reaction and granulomas which appear as red lumps beneath the skin that may or may not be permanent.
Although the cost of treatment with Reviderm Intra may vary depending upon the size of the area being treated and the severity of the problem, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the average cost of treatment with a hyaluronic acid dermal filler is $527.
