The Skinny on Milan's Anorexia Ads
Published: Thursday, September 27, 2007 - 20:17
Milan's latest supermodel makes Kate Moss look like Kirstie Alley and doesn't mind taking off her clothes in the name of fashion.

But 68-pound Isabella Caro from France isn't sashaying down the runways for Milan's Fashion Week. She - and her alarmingly emaciated nude body - are appearing on billboards around the Italian city to raise awareness about anorexia and its connections to the fashion industry, The Daily Mail reports.
Italian company Flash & Partners hired the 27-year-old Caro to represent its NoLita clothing line, saying they wanted "to use the naked body to show everyone the reality of this illness, caused in most cases by the stereotypes imposed by the world of fashion."
Though fashion designers like Giorgio Armani, Domenico Dolce, and Stefano Gabbana have spoken out that fashion should not be blamed for the anorexia epidemic, the fashion industry has come under intense scrutiny following the starvation-related death of a 22-year-old model last year.
For her part, Caro says that she has "hidden myself and covered myself for too long. Now I want to show myself fearlessly, even though I know my body arouses repugnance. I want to recover because I love life and the riches of the universe. I want to show young people how dangerous this illness is."

Bow to Bravery
By Gina (not verified) - Thursday, September 27, 2007 - 05:00I bow to her bravery. It takes enormous guts to show her body like that especially since she most probably has a huge inner battle with how she feels about her own body. What I love about the human spirit is that sometimes when we can't fight battles for ourselves we are still able to try to help others. And in the end, it is then we find that we have helped ourselves too.
